    Vostochny Port OJSC celebrates its 40-year anniversary (photo report)

    Russia’s largest coal port celebrates its 40-year anniversary. The company has approached the date with a 18-mln throughput and a large-scale investment project on construction of the Third Phase of marine coal terminal being implemented in full swing.

    Vostochny Port OJSC (Primorsk Territory) is a large stevedoring company of Russia specializing in coal transshipment. The company’s work is coordinated by Managing Port Company LLC.
    The core volumes of cargo are handled by Specialized Coal Terminal with conveyer equipment system and railcar unloading station equipped with two tandem wagon dumpers. Besides, cargo is handled at Universal Handling Terminal.

    The company applies innovative approach to warehousing logistics, its storage capacity is 850,000 t of cargo which ensures stable growth of cargo turnover.  

    Vostochny Port OJSC also handles industrial and environmental safety issues in a consistent manner. There are over 20 different facilities applied for cleaning of air and water as well as for prevention of pollution.

    Modernization programme

    With its own resources the company implements an investment programme on renovation and modernization of loading/unloading equipment in 2010 - 2015. The programme is aimed at improvement of the quality of services and building up of transshipment volumes.

    Under the programme, the Coal Terminal saw the replacement of a wagon dumper; replacement of one of four ship loading conveyors (capacity: 3,000 t/h); installation of wind shelters with infrared radiators heating and drying coal in winter period; modernization and increasing of the capacity of defrosting facilities  (up to 80  open-top wagons); installation of additional magnet separators and replacement of older equipment with the new facilities able to remove metal contaminant from cargo; installation of the latest generation sampling facilities; construction of crushing and grading complex; installation of new dust exhausting plants (dust collectors) and complete modernization of dust suppression system at wagon dumpers and ship loading conveyors.
    Besides, new cranes (capacity of 32 and 64 tonnes) are put into operation at the Universal Handling Terminal, additional specialized equipment as well as crushing and grading plants are installed; telescopic stacking conveyor is acquired; water treatment facility undergone modernization; additional railways are under construction.

    Port fleet

    Apart from transshipment complexes, Vostochny Port OJSC has its own port fleet engaged in mooring operations and providing services for other organizations operating in the port. 
    The company’s port fleet includes powerful tug-turners for coastal navigation, azimuth tugboat and an inshore craft. Port fleet operates round-the-clock and ensures about 11 tugging and mooring operations per day. The company’s vessels are able to assist both small ships, large capacity bulk cargo carriers (with deadweight of up to 150,000 t) and ocean class boxships. 

    Third Phase

    Vostochny Port OJSC commenced implementation of the project on construction of the third phase of coal complex in 2012.

    Full-scale project of the Third Phase implies the construction of a berth with two ship loading conveyors, two wagon dumpers, wagon defrosters, four coal storage yards (with the capacity of about 800,000 t), equipped with two stackers and four reclaimers, railway infrastructure for wagons.

    By today, 17.2-hectare plot of land was created for further accommodation of production facilities and storage yards.

    By 2017, throughput capacity of Vostochny Port will reach 24.5 mln t of coal, by 2019 - 29 mln t. When the Third Phase is fully operational in 2020, Vostochny Port OJSC will be avble to handle 33 mln t of cargo per year.

    Social policy

    Wage level is one of the most significant social issues. Average wage including year-end payments and long-service pensions is RUB 52,600 with average monthly wage in the Far East of RUB 33,900. Wages in the port undergo indexation every quarter.

    Vostochny Port OJSC is in the list of socially responsible enterprises of the Russian Federation. Its employees enjoy a full package of social guarantees and benefits: credit financing, maternity payments, social insurance, free medical services, education etc. 

    The personnel reserve programme covers training of the company’s employees at its training center and best profile education institutions of Russia. There is also a coaching system within the framework of the programme. So, Vostochny Port OJSC is already preparing personnel for the Third Phase of the Coal Complex which will start operation in 2017. 

    Managing Port Company LLC keeps a close eye on implementation of the collective labour agreement.

    Vostochny Port OJSC is a local economic mainstay so it regularly allocates finances for social and charity projects. It provides adequate support to municipal organizations, kindergartens, schools and sport organizations, as well as to development of Vrangel settlement with the population of some 14,000 persons including the company employees and their families.
