  • Conference «Containers and container transportation. Problems, solutions, perspectives»

    Dates:   2017 March 21 - 2017 March 22

On 21-22 March a conference "Containers and container transportation. Problems, solutions, perspectives “ will be held by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). Leading organizations of container industry engaged in design, manufacture, testing, transportation, operation of containers will be the participants of this conference.
In the course of event the perspectives and deterrents of developing the container transportation market, as well as technical issues, normative base status will be discussed at the conference.
Among the advanced development and projects to be presented in the reports is the key topic of the previous conference related to the application of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP)  in container manufacture.
Based on the results of the recently held research activity, a new section will be introduced to the RS Rules “Tank containers with shells made of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP)”. Besides, the amendments to the RS Rules for Technical Supervision of the Manufacture of Tank Containers with shells made of FRP, RS Rules for the Technical Supervision of the Tank Containers with FRP shells in Service, as well as the proposals on updating the Methodology Instructions on design, manufacture, operation and repair of the pressure vessels for the storage and carriage of dangerous cargoes have been developed.
The above activity is caused by the first Russian container tank with shells made of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) intended for multimodal transportation of deleterious substances, chemicals and petrochemicals and the assumed organization of the serial manufacture of such equipment in Russia. In 2015 the tank container was subject to the prototype testing under the RS supervision, including hydraulic, dynamic, static and fire resistance tests. Last year Infotech Baltika M accepted the innovative tank container into pilot operation.
A new project related to composite materials application is High Cube Reefer Container untended for the carriage of perishable goods. The concept of design of the serial production thereof is carried out by Scientific technological testing centre ApATech-Dubna Ltd.
Container transportation today is an integral part of the scheme for rocket fuel transportation to cosmodromes. RS is closely cooperating with the Operation Centre of Ground-based space infrastructure items (TSENKI) during the survey of equipment for delivery of rocket fuel components to Baikonur, Plesetsk Cosmodromes, Consmodrome Vostochny, Centre Spatial Guyanais for filling the launch vehicles and spacecraft. In spring 2016, during the initial run of Soyuz-2.1 rocket at Consmodrome Vostochny, the railway transportation of hydrogen peroxide (for Soyuz launch vehicle filling in) in the stainless steel thermo-tanks was performed for the first time.  RS continues cooperation in certification of Russia-made tank containers for transportation of rocket fuel components that are designed and manufactured for TSENKI.
One more trend of tank-container application is transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG).  In autumn 2016, Uralcryomash JSC received a set of RS certificates for the tank container model KCM-40/0,7 having the improved performance figures and high capacity. Tank container allows for LNG transportation by every type of transport and may be used both as a storage and a refill capacity. Together with RS, Uralcryomash JSC develops the possibility of using the above tank container as a fuel tank for sea-going ships.
