VII International Forum «Arctic: Today and the Future» will be held on December 4-6, 2017 in St. Petersburg.
Forum «Arctic: Today and the Future» is one of the key events of the Arctic agenda. Within the framework of the event, annually the results are summed up and complex trends in the development of the Arctic zone are revealed, an open dialogue between the authorities, business and the public is being developed to form an active civil society. Discussion on the Forum takes place at the intersection of various industries, private interests and agendas, so that Arctic issues are treated in a comprehensive manner with the participation of all key players.
The basis of the thematic areas of the Forum in 2017 is the basic documents regulating life and work in the Arctic Circle.This is the "Fundamentals of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic for the period until 2020 and beyond", approved by the President of the Russian Federation, and "The Strategy for the Development of the Russian Arctic and National Security for the period up to 2020".
Along with the basic issues of the transport infrastructure development and the implementation of energy projects, it is planned to discuss topical issues of development of supported zones and single-industry towns, industrial cooperation and modern communication systems, preservation of the fragile ecology of the Arctic and ecological tourism during the event. Also the topics of improvement the quality of life in high latitudes, the development of Arctic science and education, the introduction of new technologies, international cooperation in the region, and others will be raised at the Forum. Discussions will be held during 8 parallel discussions and in various formats - plenary sessions, working sessions, round tables and special events.
An exhibition in support of the forum's agenda will be held on more than two thousand square meters, where the achievements, projects and technologies of companies operating in the Arctic and Russian regions, exhibits of original culture and achievements of the peoples of the Russian Arctic will be presented.
The proposals and initiatives of the forum participants will be included in the final public resolution, which is a universal mechanism for the development of public dialogue in the Arctic. The Resolution will be forwarded to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the State Commission on the Development of the Arctic for improving public administration, regulation and administration in the Arctic Region.
It is expected that the Forum will bring together more than 1,500 delegates. Among them are members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and regional legislative assemblies, representatives of federal ministries and departments, regional and municipal authorities, leading Russian and foreign commercial companies, research organizations and mass media.
The event will be held at one of the leading congress venues of the Northern capital – in EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center.
