  • Murmansk transportation hub

The project objective was to use the capabilities of the Murmansk Transportation Node (MTN) for handling trade flows passing through the Northern Sea Route and the North-South international transport corridor, as well as hydrocarbons extracted at offshore oil fields. The project includes the development and modernization of JSC Murmansk Commercial Sea Port, construction of new facilities, container and logistics terminals, the expansion of a network of access railways, entrance / exit lanes for trucks, etc.

The project involves huge investments of the state and private companies through public-private partnership and establishing of the Special Economic Zone on the territory of the Murmansk hub (SEZ).

Construction of federal property there will begin in the second quarter of 2012. The government has earmarked in the federal budget RUB 17-18 billion for building federal facilities on the west coast of the Kola Bay. Besides, KuzbassRazrezUgol and Siberian Business Union, residents of SEZ, will invest in the terminal in the framework of the Lavna project around $300-400 million. If the project turns out to be successful the Murmansk hub will be able to transship in 2020 between 85 and 90 million tonnes of freight annually, including 40-45 million tonnes of export coal.
