Third phase of RAK port expansion begins

The customs and ports department of Ras Al Khaimah has started construction of the third phase of expanding and improving the port. The cost of works will total Dh14 million. Mohammad Al Mehrizi, director-general of Ras Al Khaimah Customs and Ports Department, said that the work has gone according to plan.
The old 250-metre-long platform will be entirely renovated. He added that a plan was finalised to enhance the services RAK Port offers to its clients, with particular emphasis on the improving commercial activities in the emirate.
He said that in the earlier two phases, RAK Port was considerably improved because the water depth was increased to accommodate bigger vessels.
The port was also able to provide additional services to ships because of the expansion. He added that different sizes of warehouses that suit all types of business activities were also set up.
Al Mehrizi said that the work in the third phase will be completed by May as part of the strategic plan adopted by the RAK government.
He said that Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has issued instructions to give priority to the port work.
