Golar LNG contracts Keppel for FLNGV conversion
Golar LNG Ltd has opted for Keppel Shipyard to develop its first floating LNG production vessel (FLNGV), Seatrade Asia online reports.
Under an agreement Keppel will convert and existing Moss LNG carrier, of which Golar said it had three potential candidates.
“Use of the company's existing Moss LNG vessels, proven topside liquefaction technology together with the appointment of Keppel to undertake the engineering and conversion enables Golar's FLNGV's to facilitate the efficient development of gas monetization opportunities when it comes to cost and schedule,” Golar said.
The first FLNGV will have a capacity of up to 2m tonnes per annum and will utilize the existing 125,000 cu m of LNG storage on board the carrier.
The first unit is due to be completed in first quarter 2015 with an option for two additional vessels.
