Swedish port operator Port of Gothenburg cuts 155 jobs due to fall in import and export volumes

Swedish port operator Port of Gothenburg announced on Monday (16 February) that it will carry out cut-backs due to a "sharp downturn in import and export volumes".

The port operator has issued redundancy notices to 155 employees, including dock workers, managers and white-collar staff. "The Port of Gothenburg reflects the state of Swedish industry and we have been hit hard by the recession. Consequently, we have been forced to announce redundancies, which is something which we had hoped we could avoid as far as possible," said Magnus Karestedt, CEO of Port of Gothenburg.

Port of Gothenburg has some 1,060 employees.
