Cargo loaded in Klaipeda port down 0.7% in Jan 09

In January 2009, 2.9 million tones of cargo was loaded in Klaipeda State Port including Butinge Terminal, a decrease of 0.7% year-on-year. Lithuanian railroad in January 2009 transported 3.4 million tonnes of cargo, a decrease of 29.1% year-on-year.

According to the data of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, 2.2 million tones of cargo was loaded in Klaipeda sea port, a decrease of 8.7% year-on-year.

A total of 0.7 million tones of crude oil was loaded in Butinge terminal in January this year, an increase of 37.4% compared to the first month of 2008.

The total number of passengers visiting Klaipeda sea port by ferries in January this year advanced 18.7% year-on-year and reached 59,500 people.

In January 2009, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai, the Lithuanian national railroad, transported 3.4 million tonnes of cargo, a decrease of 29.1% from the same period of the preceding year.

The amount of cargo transported via international routes dropped 38 % in January 2009 and stood at 2.3 million tonnes, and the amount of domestic cargo advanced 4.3% and totaled 1.1 million tonnes.

Transit railroad traffic decreased 42.3% and made up almost half (46.1%) of cargo transported via international routes.
