Port of Guangzhou's annual container throughput cumulated to 11 million TEU in 2008, up 18.8 per cent compared to 2007's 9.26 million TEU, Xinhua reported.
The port's general cargo throughput tonnage last year cumulated to 347 million tonnes.
Guangzhou port is going to spend over CNY27 billion on infrastructures during the upcoming years to develop itself into a competitive international port.
The port now has a total of 19 berths of over 10,000 tonnes, including 10 berths of 100,000 tonnes at the Nansha phase 1 and 2 terminals.
