Baltiysky Zavod (Saint-Petersburg) and Nordic Yards (Germany) have signed a contract for construction of accommodations unit for diesel-electric icebreaker ЛК-25 Victor Chernomyrdin, BZ says.
Under the contract, 2,500-tonne accommodations unit will be produced by Nordic Yards and delivered to Baltiysky Zavod by sea.
Icebreaker of Project 22600 was laid down by Baltiysky Zavod on October 10, 2012. Under the contract valued at RUB 7.94 bln, the vessel is to be delivered to the customer (FSUE Rosmorport) in December 2015.
ЛК-25 is the largest and the most powerful diesel-electric icebreaker in the world. It was ordered by FSUE Rosmorport. The LK-25 can lead convoys independently or work in conjunction with a nuclear leader icebreaker on the Northern Sea Route. The icebreaker can also be utilized for towing, rescue, drilling and oil-extracting operations and expeditions in both sea ice and clear waters. The "LK-25" is capable to run uninterrupted in the ice up to two meters thick.
