Unique system of water area heating to be created in port Sabetta

Unique system of water area heating is to be created in port Sabetta (Yamal), IAA PortNews journalist cites Vladimir Merzlikin, representative of LENMORNIIPROEKT, as saying at RAO/CIS Offshore 2013.

According to him, the port’s inner harbour will be artificially fenced to be protected from ice-drifts. Such isolated waters can freeze down to the bottom thus making navigation to be impossible. Therefore, it is supposed to use a special boiler plant and pump stations to ensure circulation of warm water.

With this unique system, water temperature can be raised by 3-4 С, Merzlikin said.

The port is being constructed within the framework of Yamal LNG project.

Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of an LNG plant with annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per annum based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field. According to the PRMS reserve standards, the proven and probable reserves of the South-Tambeyskoye field as of 31 December 2012 were appraised at 907 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The Project also requires the construction of transport infrastructure including a sea-port and an airport located at Sabetta (north-east of the Yamal Peninsula). Yamal LNG is currently owned by NOVATEK (80%) and TOTAL (20%).
