St. Petersburg passenger port reports 15% gain in calls, to 261 cruise ships
The number of passenger vessels received and handled at the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg "Marine Façade" in the 2013 shipping season rose 15% year-on-year to 261 vessels, the Marine Facade MC President Serik Zhusupov told PortNews.
In the reporting period, the terminal handled 503,215 passengers (+19%)
"Passenger traffic at the port totaled more than 1 million people, and by the figures we became the largest port on the Baltic Sea. This year we have the longest cruise navigation period. On November 30 we handled the last cruise ship, and the passenger navigation finishes on December 30", said Mr. Zhusupov.
In 2013 the passenger port plans to transfer to the city budget a total of RUB 73 million, a 55% growth year-on-year.
JSC Passenger Port St. Petersburg "Marine Façade" is 100%-owned by St. Petersburg government and is the largest marine passenger port in Russia. Construction of Marine Façade began in 2006. Currently, the passenger terminal can accommodate cruise and ferry ships of 311 meters in length and a draft of up to 9 meters. The length and depth of new access channels is 10 km and 11 meters. The port operates seven piers. The quay wall length is 2171.06 m.
