Terminal for transshipment of mineral fertilizers to be launched at port Ust-Luga in 2014

PhosAgro in partnership with Ultramar establishes is own operator for transshipment of mineral fertilizers at port Ust-Luga. As IAA PortNews was told at PhosAgro, the company is one of the incorporators of Smart Bulk Terminal where it holds 70% and which will be engaged in transshipment of mineral fertilizers via port Ust-Luga.

The partner of PhosAgro is Ultramar company, Russia’s largest carrier mineral fertilizers in containers. Smart Bulk Terminal will arrange the construction and operation of the new terminal at port Ust-Luga. Mineral fertilizers will be transshipped from wagons to vessels with accumulation of shipload in specialized containers. 

The design capacity of the new terminal is about 1.5 mln t of fertilizers per year. The volume of investments is estimated at $15 mln. Smart Bulk Terminal will be under operational management of Ultramar. 

The terminal is to be put into operation by the end of the year. The construction and transshipment technologies will be based on the existing experience with the application of technologies widely used in Australia. 

According to PhosAgro representative, the establishment of the company’s own operator is in line with PhosAgro policy on control and management of costs throughout the entire chain of production and sales. It is aimed at the reduction of transshipment costs.
