Shipbuilding Company Almaz delivers coast guard ship Almaz to Russia’s Border Guard
Border Guard of Russia’s Federal Security Service has taken the delivery of the Ametist, new coast guard ship of project 22460, press center of St. Petersburg Government says. The ship has been delivered a year before the contract term.
The Ametist, which has just seen the flag raising ceremony is yet another ship of the series bearing the names of precious stones. The borders of Russia are already under protection of the Rubin, the Zhemchug, the Brilliant and the Izumrud. The new coast guard ship will protect the border in the area of the Crimea peninsula.
Project 22460 patrol ship was developed bySevernoye Design Bureau and is used for protection of state border and territorial waters, as well as for anti-terror and anti-piracy operations. The ship's displacement is 630 t; speed is 30 knots; fuel range is 3,500 miles; endurance is 30 days; length is 62.5 meters. t is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems as well as automated ship control system. The armament includes a helicopter.
Shipbuilding Company "Almaz" is going on with the construction of Project 22460 ships (Hulls No No 506, 507, 508) for Russia’s Border Guard. Besides, it is building a series of 9 self-propelled floating cranes with the capacity of 35-150 t for RF Ministry of Defence.
Shipbuilding Company Almaz was founded in 1933 as a shipbuilding unit of USSR Coast Guard. Today Almaz is a modern manufacturer of the state-of-the-art military equipment. The company specializes in the construction of JHSV and high-speed interception / patrol boats, large and small ships, of high-specification air-cushion vehicles (ACV), civil boats and yachts for domestic customers and for export. Technical base of the enterprise enables to conduct all sorts of ship repair and modernisation simultaneously with shipbuilding. Ship are launched and hosted with the help of two floating docks of 3,000 and 2,500 t payload capacity. Docks are used to hoist and roll ships to horizontal building berths which have more than ten building places.
