Icebreaker "TOR" arrives at Sabetta port (photo release)

Rosmorport's diesel-electric icebreaker "TOR" on December 7, 2014 entered the seaport of Sabetta, Rosmorport said in a press release.

The icebreaker has passed along the coast of Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, crossed the Baltic, North, Norwegian, Barents and Kara seas with intermediate stopovers in the seaport of Murmansk to replenish stocks and to draw up all reacquired documents.
On its way, at the request of the Arkhangelsk branch of JSC Belomortrans the icebreaker participated in a rescue operation. Within two days, from November 29 through December 1, 2014, the icebreaker was assisting two dry bulk carriers Nadezhda and Brin Navolok to break free from the ice.

The TOR, featuring relatively small size and draft of 6.5 meters will be deployed in the seaport of Sabetta for scarifiying the ice at the quay wall and assisting merchant ships making calls at port in the winter 2014-2015 shipping season. The icebreaker will work at the seaport for at least 240 days.
The 374-design diesel-electric icebreaker TOR was built in 1964 at a Finland's Wärtsilä shipyard for Sweden.

In 2008, Rosmorport acquired two icebreakers "TOR" and "Yuri Lisyansky" which were previously were operated under bare-boat charter agreements. General characteristics: - Class KM LL6; LOA - 84.5 m; breadth - 21.2 m; DP - 9.5 m; displacement - 5302.4 tonnes; DWT - 1024 tonnes; load draft  - 6.53 m; clear water speed - 18.3 knots; speed in the 50cm-thick ice - 4.5 knots; maximum thickness of ice - up to 1 m; bollard pull hook: max. - 80 tonnes, 45 tonnes on the brake; main propulsion rated power - 10.1 MW; crew - 33 people.
