Sovcomflot group got loan to purchase two tankers
The Sovcomflot Group has successfully completed the negotiations with the Japanese bank – Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) – and the Dutch Fortis Bank regarding the Loan Facility of USD 70m, Sovcomflot Press-Centre reports according to RZD-Partner.
The Agreement was signed in Paris on 18 December 2006. The Loan was obtained to finance the acquisition by Sovcomflot of two LNG carriers owned by BG – SCF Polar and SCF Arctic.
Enlarging its fleet by these two ships, the Sovcomflot Group joined the club of independent commercial and technical operators working in the market of seaborne transportation of liquefied natural gas.
Both gas carriers have been chartered out for a long term to Gas Natural – the major Spanish gas company. The acquisition and the charter contract will allow to establish long-term relations with one of the biggest LNG operators in the shipping market.
The capacity and the ice-class of the vessels will allow to use them further in servicing Russian LNG projects.
