MOL sets up joint venture to expand work in Cambodia
Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines is opening its first subsidiary in Cambodia by means of a joint venture with its hitherto agent, writes Mike Grinter in Hong Kong.
Effective January 1, Mitsui OSK Lines (Cambodia) Co Ltd — a joint venture with Global SKL Shipping — will take up the agency duties of Global SKL.
A spokesman for MOL said that its shipping business had expanded sufficiently during 2006 for the company to consider upgrading its services and using a joint venture to scout for more.
MOL owns 70% of the new company with Global SKL taking the outstanding 30%. The spokesman said that MOL had handled 6,500 teu from Cambodia through a third party feeder service.
MOL has no plans to offer a direct call to Cambodia in the near future
