Following a workshop on the development of Russia's shipbuilding sector Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev charged the ministries and departments with the task of working out a strategy to support the country's shipbuilders, the Russian Government's official website said.
To encourage domestic shipbuilding development the orders for marine equipment for offshore projects and newbuilds orders should be placed with Russian shipyards, the government's press release said.

The Ministry of Industry in conjunction with Russian oil & gas giants Rosneft, LUKOIL, Gazprom, Novatek and other stakeholders should consider by May 27, 2015 the possibility of placing orders for offshore marine equipment and vessels with Far Eastern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair.

The ministries of Finance, of Economic Development, of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy should finalize feasibility assessment of investment project for construction of "Zvezda" shipbuilding complex in the Far East and submit the agreed proposals on its funding from the National Welfare Fund.

The ministries of Industry, of Transport, and the Ministry of Finance in conjunction with the Rosatom State Corporation should consider funding the project of 110MW nuclear-powered icebreaker for its construction after 2020. In addition, the Ministries and Rosatom Corp. will work out the program to reduce the cost of building floating nuclear power plants, also by attracting foreign partners and customers for the facilities construction in Russia.
Ministries jointly with United Shipbuilding Corp. will assess the current backlog of orders and capabilities of shipbuilding companies, which can be further placed with the domestic shipyards until 2019.

There are other projects and measures to support the domestic shipbuilding sector, as well as incentives for shipping companies to upgrade its fleet placing more orders with local shipyards.
