Makarov Training Center has trained over 900 seafarers for ice navigation

Makarov Training Center (Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping) has trained more than 900 seafarers for ice navigation, over 50% of them are foreign citizens or Russian seafarers working under the foreign flags, IAA PortNews correspondent cites the University Rector Sergei Baryshnikov as saying at the International conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century”, St. Petersburg, July 7, 2015. 

“Apart from the simulator complexes of MTC, the training course is held at the Kotka Vocational college icebreaker and Kotka University of Applied science (Kotka, FInland), as well as at the laboratories of Aker Arctiс ice basin (Helsinki, Finland),” Sergei Baryshnikov said.

Makarov Training Center is one of the structural subdivisions of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. MTC suggests professional educational courses for students and cadets of the University, crews of seacrafts, wide range of maritime and oil&gas industry specialists of Russia, CIS and foreign countries. As of today, Makarov Training Center numbers over 40 types of simulators at its two branches in Saint-Petersburg as well as in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.

Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University.
