On June 7, 2015, new simulator complex for tanker personnel was unveiled at Makarov Training Center (Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping). According to IAA PortNews reporter, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu, Makarov University Rector Sergei Baryshnikov and CEO of Gazpromneft Shipping Ltd. Dmitry Kinè.
The complex has been created with the support of Gazprom Neft. According to Dmitry Kinè, “implementation of this project will let the company specialists who operate oil tankers obtain required qualification and practical skills in cargo operations.”
He says that shipboard personnel of Gazpromneft Shipping will be trained at the newly launched simulator complex.
Sergei Aizinov, head of the Makarov Training Center, the new complex will ensure highly efficient practical training for crewmembers of different oil tankers.
“The training is focused on practical skills for safe and efficient cargo and ballast operations at oil tankers, chemical tankers and LNG carriers”, he said.
The simulator complex will be used by the University for personnel training in compliance with Manila amendments to the STCW Convention.
The new complex, LCHS 5000 TechSim, manufactured by Transas consists of the following simulators: product carrier, chemical tanker, LCC, LPG carrier.
The ceremony was held within the framework of the International conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century" held in St. Petersburg on July 7, 2015 at Adm. Makarov State University. The event supported by the Russian Ministry of Transport, the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport was arranged with the participation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Makarov Training Center is one of the structural subdivisions of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. MTC suggests professional educational courses for students and cadets of the University, crews of seacrafts, wide range of maritime and oil&gas industry specialists of Russia, CIS and foreign countries. As of today, Makarov Training Center numbers over 40 types of simulators at its two branches in Saint-Petersburg as well as in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University.
