The newest diesel-electric submarine SSK "Stary Oskol", recently commissioned into service with the Russian Navy fleet, arrived from St. Petersburg to Baltiysk to participate in the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Navy, when ships will sail out from Kaliningrad navigation channel's exit in Baltiysk , the Western Military District press office said.

During the transition to the base SSK submarine crew held exercises on board the ship tested navigation elements, performed a series of combat training tasks for improving the preparedness of personnel to emergencies.

SSK "Stary Oskol" was laid down on on August 17, 2012, launched on August 28, 2014 and on June 25 of this year the state commission signed an acceptance / delivery certificate. The ceremony of commissioning into service with the Russian Navy of SSK submarine (improved Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class, B-262, Admiralty Shipyards) built for the Black Sea Fleet, was held July 3 in the framework of the International Maritime Defense Show in St. Petersburg.

Submarines of this class belong to generation 3 and are the modification of Project 636 and 877. They are considered one of the quietest in the world. Submerged speed - 20 knots; Maximum depth - 300 m; Endurance - 45 days; Compliment - 52 people; Submerged displacement - about 4,000 tonnes. Armament includes torpedos, mines, and Kalibr 3M54 (NATO SS-N-27 Sizzler) cruise missiles and upgraded avionics.
