Sakhalin fishing boat sinks, crew members rescued

A Sakhalin fishing schooner (18 Hosey Maru) got its hull breached and sank January 31 evening sank in the La Perouse Strait, 3.5 miles off Crillon Cape (southern Sakhalin), no casualties were reported, Novosti RIA reports citing a statement of Nevelsk fishing port, monitoring shipping safety service.

A Koye Maru fishing schooner responded to the crew’s distress signal, rescued 8 people and a dog taking them from distress vessel.

The crew of the distress schooner was taken to the port of Korsakov (southern Sakhalin). The incident details have not been clarified yet. The sunk ship carried 6 tons of fuel, no reports over fuel spills at the scene, the agency said.
