Throughput of Illichevsk port rose 20.8%, to 1.469 million tons this January

Freight turnover at Illichevsk Commercial Sea Port (ICSP, Ukraine) increased by 20.8% compared with the same period last year - up to 1.469 million tons in January 2010. According to the posted data for January, the port has had a 70.4% surge in volumes of bulked freight, while general cargoes fell by 12.7%, handled liquid bulk cargo dropped by 40%.

The rebound in January in year-over-year numbers was due to several bulk cargoes, such as ore (133.7%), sulfur (48.0%), wheat (31.4%), oilcakes (80.0 %). There was a growth in several general commodities exports: ferry cargoes (+31.3%), pig-iron (+ 23.3%), containers (+29.5% in tons and 6.9% in TEUs). In January, containers turnover totaled 21.48 thousand TEUs.

The largest, a 80.0 percent slump as compared with the same period last year, was reported for freight trucking.

Illichevsk CSP is among the four top leading Ukrainian ports. The company has manufacturing facilities, which allow handling annually more than 30 million tons of a wide range of commodities. The port’s a 6-km length mooring line with 29 berths. There are three access railroads and three driveways for trucks. Freight transshipment numbers for 2009 showed a 13.8% decrease, over 2008 report - at 16.286 million tons. The port’s net profit for 2009 amounted to 285 million hryvna (approximately $35.6 million).
