Iyichevck port buys a heavy lift harbor crane, upgrades to boost its throughput

Iyichevck Commercial Sea Port (ICSP, Ukraine) purchased and set on its berth N10 a new heavy lift mobile harbor crane of advanced technical specifics. The crane with its boom length of 36 meters is able to handle large-tonnage cargoes, "MOST-Odessa IA reports citing Vladimir Poberezhnyuk, the chief engineer of ICSP.

"We just urgently need overall upgrade and replace of our old port cranes, as many of them have operated for 40 years. We are in a bid in the near future, to replace all our outdated equipment, provided, the government will not change its policy. The port will be able to purchase this year four cranes and upgrade three more, to acquire a berth container crane”, Vladimir Perebezhnyuk was quoted as saying.

The state-run Illichevsk Commercial Sea Port is among the four largest Ukrainian ports. The company operates its manufacturing facilities of handling capacity of more than 30 million tons of cargoes a year. The port provides services on 29 berths and piers accommodated across 6-km mooring line. There are three access rail roads and three truck driveways at Illichevsk port. Last year the volumes of commodities via ICSP dropped by 13.8% over 2008, to 16.286 million tons. The port’s net profit in 2009 amounted to 285 million hryvna (roughly about $35.6 million).
