Throughput in Finland ports dropped by 17.9%, to 78.7 million tons in 2009

Volumes of commodities shipped via Finland seaports in 2009 totaled 78 million 701.163.000 tons, 17.9% down on 2008. In January-November 2009, the country’s ports terminals transshipped 42.517.775 tons of inbound cargoes, showing a year-over-year 20.8 percent slump and 36.183.388 tones of outbound cargoes, 14,2% less over the reporting period of 2008.

Sköldvik port handled 17.139.225 tons, the largest volume among other Finland seaports, yet a 3.8 percent decline over 2008, the Association of Finnish ports statement said.  

Freight traffic through Kotka port terminal was at 7.250.000 tons in 11 months of 2009, a 35.2 percent year-over-year drop, throughput in the port of Helsinki in the reporting period decreased by 17%, to 9.992.056 tons.

Noteworthy, final data for 11 months of 2009 posted recently by the authorities show a 18.6 percent decline in freight traffics, to 71.900.000 tons over the same period in previous year. In 2008 total volume of commodities shipped via Finland ports amounted to 95.838.036 thousand tons.
