Cargo turnover through Odessa port down 4.9%, to 2,14 million tons in January this year

Freight traffics via Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP, Ukraine) according to provisional data posted by the port authorities for January 2010, declined by 4.9% compared with that of 2009, to 2.14 million tons. According to the statement referring to Nicholas Pavliuk, the Chief Executive of the state-run company, despite a slight decrease in the total turnover in January 2010 the port showed a 27 percent growth in volumes of containers over the same period in 2009.

State-run Odessa Commercial Sea Port is one of the largest ports of the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port’s facilities allow handling over 14 million tons of dry bulk cargoes and 14 million tons of oil products a year. Overall freight traffic volumes via OCSP in 2009 fell 19% year-over-year, to 28.007 million tons.
