Eurogate posts 12.45 million TEUs, a 12.3% drop in containers volumes

Total volumes of containers through Eurogate, European container terminals in 2009 were 12.454.600 TEUs, a year-over-year 12.3% drop. The company statement said the throughput cutback was due primarily to the global economic crisis.

The Eurogate statistics show several drops in containers volumes via its terminals. Bremerhaven’s throughput was down 17.5% from 2008, at 4.535.842 TEUs. The container terminal in Hamburg posted a year-over-year 20.5% slump, down to 2.1 million TEUs. Overall container volumes in Germany was at 6.673.945 TEUs, a 18.5% cutback. Italy’s terminal reported a slight 9.9% decline, at 5.139.891 TEUs while output of Morokko terminal in Tangier jumped 6.8 times, 435.575 against 64.178 TEUs in 2008.

EUROGATE is the top leading logistics Group in Europe currently operating ten container terminals from the North Sea coast to the Mediterranean area. The company was established in 1999. According to statistics the throughput of Eurogate container terminals reached 14.195.172 TEUs in 2008.
