Maersk Line increases charges for imports to St.Petersburg

Maersk Line shipping company announced it would increase winter surcharge because of the rough weather conditions on the Baltic Sea. The ML said that very low temperatures and heavy ice had led to extra shipment cost for the carrier and caused Maersk Line to increase Winter Surcharge for import shipments to St.Petersburg ports.

The Surcharge is increasing from $100 to $275 per TEU. The new rates are effective from March 5, 2010 for imports on the FMC trade (USA, Guam, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands [US]) and Taiwan. From February 15, 2010 for imports from the rest of the world, the company statement said.

Maersk Line, a division of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, is one of the world’s leading liner shipping companies, providing services across the world. Its fleet comprises more than 500 vessels and a number of containers corresponding to more than 1,900,000 TEU.
