Finnish Viking Line cancels a ship contract due to backlog in the construction

Finnish ferry company Viking Line announced it cancelled its contract for a new ship built at Astilleros de Sevilla dockyard. The ordered ADCC ship was to be built by the spring last year. The VL had to cancel the order due to a strong backlog in the construction schedule, Narvskaya newspaper reported.

The vessel was designed for Kapellskär (Sweden) - Mariehamn (Finland) line.Viking Line will get back 42.7 million euro paid for the vessel. The damage from the failed order will be reportedly some 4 million euro.

Viking Line intends to use the lack of orders for shipbuilding companies and invite bids for a contract to get the best possible price for the planned new vessel, to operate on Finland and Sweden line.

Viking Line project is of much interest for STX Finlandi Turu shipbuilder.
