Containerized cargoes is the future of Estonia’s transport system, Vladimir Yakunin

Containerized cargo transshipment could be promising for transport system facilities in Estonia, Vladimir Yakunin, the president of Russian Railways JSC said, speaking to reporters yesterday before the plenary session of the II International Regional Rail Forum "1520 Strategic Partnership: Baltic Region".

Russian petroleum product export to Estonia is currently 80% of the total freight traffic, Mr. Yakunin said. With the further development of an oil complex in Ust-Luga port Russian oil transshipment volumes via Estonian ports may decline. At the same time, Vladimir Yakunin noted, in 2009 the Russian freight traffic volumes on the route to Estonia had not dropped but showed a slight rise instead, despite the economic crisis.

The forum will continue working today, February 10th, 2010.
