Freight traffic between Finland and Russia up 1.4 times, to 2.9 million tons in 2009

The volume of commodities railroad shipments by First Cargo Company (FCC) servicing Finland and Russia line totaled 2.9 million tons in 2009, rose as much as 1.4 times over 2008. The company transported last year 2 million tons of coal, 0.8 million tons of petroleum products and 0.1 million tons of other commodities, the FCC press office said.

The FCC reported a 3.8 growth in freight traffic on Russia - Kazakhstan route, at 4.6 million tons. The volume includes 2.5 million tons of coal, 1.8 million tons of petroleum products and 0.3 million tons of other cargo.

Russia - Belarus line has seen 1.1 million tons of cargo transported by FCC, as much as 3.6 times growth from the previous year. The figures show oil shipments, 0.8 million tons, added heavily to overall volumes there. The company reported as well 0.1 million tons of chemicals and mineral fertilizers and 0.2 million tons of other cargo transported on the route.

The company’s press release said total 2009 volumes of freight traffic between Russian carries and the so-called "Space 1520" countries (save transits via these countries) increased in comparison with 2008 by 1.9 times and amounted to 11.5 million tons. The First Cargo Company’s share in the total cargo turnover with these countries rose from 3% to 7%.

First Cargo Company operates its 77.000-tank fleet, 55.000 gondolas, 14.000 rail platforms, 14.000 box cars, 45.000 of specialized railcars.
