New Yeysk seaport to be built, project cost at 20.7 billion rubles

Administration of Yeysk district (Krasnodar Territory) plans to build a seaport of annual capacity of 18 million tons of cargo in the area of Kamyshevatskaya spit. The project must be approved by two federal agencies Rosmorrechflot and Rosmorport, Yuga.Ru reported, citing the the Kommersant newspaper.

Draft of the new seaport has being developed since 2007. As Igor Nazarkin, an advisor of Yeysk Administration says, several major regional companies have announced they would be willing to invest.

According to the project, the former Yeiskiy port, located within the city boundaries and handling some 4 million tons of cargo a year, will be shipping environmentally friendly commodities and developing passenger transport. All other general cargoes will be handled at the projected port, Igor Nazarkin said.

The project cost is estimated at 20.7 billion rubles. The construction site for the port has been already allocated by regional authorities as well as for local thermal power plant and railroad. The local officials believe the federal government might join investing the project.

As PortNews has reported earlier the municipal board of Yeiskiy district in February this year decided to allocate 1.5 million rubles for funding the port project design estimates.

Seaport of Eisk (Krasnodar Territory) specializes in transshipping imported and exported commodities to the ports of the Black Sea and Mediterranean basins. On November 27, 2009 RosMorRechFlot filed the Yeysk seaport’s data in the Register of Russian Sea Ports, assigning to the port B-5 serial registration number.
