Afrikantov design bureau to deliver RITM-200 reactor plant for icebreaker Arktika in 2016
Afrikantov design bureau (JSC Afrikantov OKBM, Nizhny Novgorod) will supply equipment for reactor plant RITM-200 intended for icebreaker Arktika, lead nuclear-powered icebreaker of the new generation being built by Baltiysky Zavod (Saint-Petersburg), in 2016, IAA PortNews correspondent refers to Aleksandr Pakhomov, head of the design bureau’s department for development of marine nuclear reactor plants.
According to Aleksandr Pakhomov, the plants for the first and the second serial icebreakers of Project 22220 will be delivered in 2017 and 2018 accordingly.
Total value of RITM-200 is RUB 8 bln.
RITM 200 is a two-reactor RP with capacity of 175 MW each. RITM 200 is almost twice easier and more compact, accordingly, it is cheaper on material consumption and occupies less place on a vessel; consequently, it is more cost-effective.
The LK-60 icebreaker, the first icebreaker of the new generation, is under construction at Baltiysky Zavod. The ship was designed by Central Design Bureau Iceberg in 2009. The lead 60 MW icebreaker of Project 22220 ordered by Atomflot was laid down in November 2013. The icebreaker’s advanced dual-draft capability makes it suitable for operations both in the Arctic waters and in the mouths of the northern rivers. The icebreaker will be operating in the western region of the Arctic: the Barents, Pechora and Kara Seas and in shallow waters of the mouth of the Yenisei and the Ob Bay.
Joint Stock Company "Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering" (Afrikantov OKBM) is one of the leading design and production centers of atomic power engineering.
