Murmansk region can become a new center for servicing marine activities in the Arctic, Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun said at the plenary session within the V International Forum “Arctic: Today And The Future”.
According to the press center of the regional government, Marina Kovtun expects implementation of the Murmansk Transport Hub project to facilitate the process.
The role of Murmansk Transport Hub as a “major logistic center” has been recently emphasized by Vladimir Putin in his Annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly.
“We recognize the scale of state ambitions in the development of the Arctic shelf and recognize the role of the Murmansk Region as a base for this development. Therefore we create the most favorable environment for our strategic partners-investors,” Marina Kovtun said.
Marina Kovtun reminded that Rosneft and Gazprom continue developing project documentation for creation of onshore infrastructure bases at the Kola Bay to support their offshore projects.
This year, NOVATEK has begun implementation of an investment project on establishment of the center for construction of superlarge marine facilities in the Murmansk Region. It will be located on the western shore of the Kola Bay, at Belokamenka settlement. A shipyard is to be built within the framework of Arctic LNG-2 project on the development of Gydan fields. Project documentation is to be completed in 2016, state expertise approval and permit for construction are to be obtained in 2017, Marina Kovtun said.
“Kola shipyard is to give a powerful impetus to Murmansk Region development: it will generate thousands of job, attract highly qualified personnel and improve the competence of local enterprises. The most important thing, perhaps, is the role of this project as a platform for localization of high technologies in Russia,” said the Governor.
