ZiO-Podolsk ships equipment for nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika being built by Baltiysky Zavod

Power Engineering Plant ZiO-Podolsk PJSC (corporate member of Rosatom’s machine-building division Atomenergomash) has manufactured and shipped components of RITM-200 nuclear reactor for the new generation icebreaker Arktika, says Atomenergomash.

Four water storage tanks and four hydraulic accumulator tanks of RUTM-200 have been shipped to Baltiysky Zavod – Sudostroyeniye LLC. Each water storage tank weighs 3.2 t. Its length is 2.3 m, diameter – 1.1 m. Hydraulic accumulator tanks weigh 6.8 t each and measure 4.4 m x 1.1 m.

ZiO-Podolsk is manufacturing RITM-200 plants for the lead and serial icebreakers of new generation, Project 22220.

Reactor plant RITM-200 has been designed by Afrikantov design bureau (JSC Afrikantov OKBM, Nizhny Novgorod), one of the leading design and production centers of atomic power engineering.

The LK-60 of Project 22220, Arktika, will be the world’s largest and most powerful icebreaker. The icebreaker will have the length of 173.3 m, width - 34 m, designed draught – 10.5 m, minimum working draught – 8.55 m, displacement - 33,540 t. The icebreaker will be able to break though ice of up to three meters thick.
