Admiral Grigorovich class frigate completes final set of state sea trials

The Project 11356 frigate Admiral Grigorovich on December 30, 2015 completed the state sea trials with missile firing drills, a spokesman for Baltiysk based Yantar Shipyard said.

Sergei Mikhailov. said the frigate has conducted test firing of its Shtil and Kalibr missile systems. The ship is expected to return to Kaliningrad in early January.

Upon arrival in Kaliningrad, inspection the will begin preparations for commissioning into service with the Russian Navy's fleet. The ceremony of flag hoisting and signing of acceptance certificate is scheduled for February.

State acceptance trials of Admiral Grigorovich, the lead ship of Project 11356 series ships began in October 2015. In December, the frigate arrived at the Northern Fleet base to practice missile firing. At the end of December 2015 Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said that the Project 11356 two frigates. Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen will be commissioned only in 2016.

The Admiral Grigorovich was laid down at Yantar Shipyard on December 18, 2010 and launched on March 14, 2014. Two contracts awarded to Yantar Shipyard by the Russian Ministry of Defense the company will build a six frigates series of Project 11356. The series design was developed at JSC Northern Design Bureau. The Project 11356 frigates are intended for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare as well as for air defense missions, operating both independently or as part of convoys and naval task forces.
