RosSelkhozNadzor bans 24.5-ton-pork shipment from US

Primorsky regional office of Rosselkhoznadzor, Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance banned 24.5 tons of pork products imported to Vladivostok from the U.S. as it was not conforming to the requirements of Russia's security and quality for food, the agency statement said.

The agency veterinary laboratory conducted inspection and tests that have shown that the entire consignment of pork products (trimming), imported from the U.S.A by a local entrepreneur, had unacceptable organoleptic quality, which does not to meet the hygienic requirements of Russia's security and nutritional requirements for foods.

In accordance with Federal Law "On quality and food safety”, the import into Russian Federation of foods, materials and products, imposing potential risk is prohibited, the veterinary agency said. The owner of the imported pork products will have within ten days to remove the cargo outside the territory of Russia.
