Ministry of Transport offers changes in the Murmansk Port’s boundaries

Russian Ministry of Transport has prepared a draft order for the Russian Government on amendments to the Russ. Govt. October 17, 2009 (N1535-P) order that had defined the boundaries of Murmansk Commercial Port, the Ministry of Transport statement said.

The port is Murmansk is based on the Kola Peninsula on the coast of the Barents Sea and is the world's largest port, located above the Arctic Circle. Murmansk is the most northerly ice-free ports of Russia. There are some 17 stevedores operating currently at the port. Last year the total cargo turnover at Murmansk reached 37.4 million tons. The Federal Govt.’s “Development of the Russia’s Transport System-2010-2015” project includes the port of Murmansk as a base for "Integrated Development of the Murmansk Transport Hub".
