Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University announces enrolment of 1,175 students
In 2016, enrolment of Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University numbered 1,175 students, IAA PortNews cites Yevgeny Appolonov, Acting Rector of the University. According to him, the federal budget will finance the education of 725 students under Bachelor's programme and 250 students under Master’s programme. 200 students will study on a commercial basis.
Yevgeny Appolonov said the University has confirmed the success of the previous year and even exceeded it a little. He was satisfied to see the growing number of Saint-Petersburg citizens among the first-year students.
“Average number of non- Saint-Petersburg citizens among the first-year students is 78% in the city with our institution showing a share of 50%,” explained Yevgeny Appolonov.
Yet, the University is not satisfied with quite a low average USE mark which shows how popular the institution is among the characterizes the school leavers.
“Last year we have made a certain leap having increased the average USE mark by over 10%. This year we have almost repeated the result of the previous year with a slight improvement” said Yevgeny Appolonov. In 2016, average USE mark to enter the University was 58-59.
To improve this indicator the University is enhancing its occupational guidance activities with a focus on the regions and the opportunities of internet and social network services, said the Acting Rector of the University.
Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University is a Russia's only university, which prepares world-class marine engineers expertise in design, construction and maintenance of ships, surface ships and submarines.
