Port Pevek (Chukotka) welcomes first vessels delivering materials and equipment for floating nuclear power plant

Port Pevek (Chukotka Autonomous District) has accepted the first convoy of vessels delivering materials and equipment for the world’s first floating nuclear power plant (FNPP). PR Department of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC says M/V Constanta and M/V Anisimov have delivered construction machinery and over 6,000 t of metal structures.

68 anchor piles with diameter exceeding 1 meter, length of up to 8 meters and total weigh of over 270 tonnes have been unloaded from the ships. Upon completion of unloading, the delivered machinery and materials will be used for construction works. They are to begin on September 26, 2016, in compliance with the general schedule.

The third ship, M/V Tsygankov, is ready to leave the port of Arkhangelsk. The ship will deliver more materials needed at the construction site.

Mooring trials of the Floating Nuclear Power Plant commenced in July 2016. Upon completion of the tests scheduled for late October, 2017, FNPP Akademik Lomonosov will leave the shipyard as a completed facility and will be delivered along the Northern Sea Route to its place of operation and connected to the onshore infrastructure being developed at port Pevek (Chukotka). Rosenergoatom is going to start placing the FNPP in September 2019. The tests and commissioning of the Akademik Lomonosov are also scheduled for autumn 2019.

The customer of the pilot FNPP is a dedicated branch of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC.
