Kaliningrad port boundaries extended for construction of a terminal at Pionersky
The port of Kaliningrad boundaries have been extended for construction of a terminal at the town of Pionersky, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of Russia – Head of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), as saying at the joint meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Rosmorrechflot.
According to him, the construction phase will begin in 2017.
Under the project, the existing port infrastructure facilities on the Zemlandsky peninsula in a small bay between the Gvardeisky and Kupalny capes will be developed with the construction of hydraulic engineering and general port facilities. A passenger terminal building, a border checkpoint, utilities and aids to navigation are also foreseen by the project.
The project is expected to ensure up to 110 calls of cruise ships with at least 225,000 cruise passengers and 312 calls of ferries with 80,000 passengers and 80,000 Ro-Ro units.
The project on construction of an international sea terminal for cruise and passenger vessels at Pionersky of the Kaliningrad Region is being implemented in pursuance of the presidential order by the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), FSUE Rosmorport and Kaliningrad Region Government in the framework of the Federal Targeted Programme “Development of Russia’s Transport System in 2010-2020”. State customer of the federally owned facilities is Rosmorrechflot, general designer - Morstroytechnology LLC. According to the schedule, the terminal at Pionersky is to be put into operation by June 2018.
