Throughput of Russian seaports up 6.7% to 721.9 mln t in 2016

In January-December 2016, Russian seaports handled 721.7 mln t of cargo (+6.7%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 335.8 mln t (+7.5%) including 136.3 mln t of coal (+10.5%), 42.7 mln t of containerized cargo (+6.5%), 35.5 mln t of grain (+3.3%), 28.2 mln t of ferrous metal (+7.8%), 22.7 mln t of cargies carried by ferries (+3.5%), 16.2 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+1.1%), 8.7 mln t of ore (+29.6%), 5.4 mln t of forest cargo (+1.8%), 4.6 mln t of Ro-Ro cargo (up 1.8 times), 4.0 mln t of metal scrap (-5.5%) and 3.6 mln t of packaged cargo (– 8.7%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew to 386.1 mln t (+5.9%) including 228.0 mln t of crude oil (+12.8%), 13.6 mln t of liquefied gas (+5.5%) and 140.7 mln t of oil products (- 3.7%).

Exports totaled 567.3 mln t (+5.3%), imports - 31.7 mln t (-5.0%), transit - 51.0 mln t (+5.8%). Short-sea traffic - 71.9 mln t (+27.4%).

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 49.7 mln t of cargo (+40.6%, year-on-year) including 26.6 mln t of dry cargo (+6.6%) and 23.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2.2 times). The port of Murmansk handled 33.4 mln t (up 1.5 times), Varandei - 8.0 mln t (+21.6%), Dudinka - 1.2 mln t (+1.6%), Arkhangelsk - 2.6 mln t (-31.0%), Kandalaksha - 0.8 mln t (- 3.4%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 236.6 mln t (+2.5%) including 89.7 mln t of dry cargo (+2.2%) and 146.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.7%). The port of Ust-Luga handled Увеличился объем 93.4 mln t (+6.2%), Primorsk - 64.4 mln t (+8.1%), Big Port St. Petersburg - 48.6 mln t (-5.6%) mostly due to lower transshipment of oil products (-32.3%), Vysotsk - 17.1 mln t (-2.2%), Kaliningrad - 11.7 mln t (-7.8%), Vyborg - 1.4 mln t (-11.6%).

Throughput of Azov - Black Sea ports climbed to 244.0 mln t (+4.8%) including 105.3 mln t of dry cargo (+7.1%) and 138.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+3.1%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 131.4 mln t (+3.4%), Kavkaz - 33.2 mln t (+8.8%), Taman - 13.5 mln t (+9.1%), Rostov-on-Don - 12.9 mln t (+11.4%), Kerch - 9.6 mln t (+22.4%), Yeisk - 4.3 mln t (+10.2%), Temryuk - 2.9 mln t (+14.6%), Azov - 6.6 mln t (-6.3%), Taganrog - 2.4 mln t (-19.1%), Tuapse - 25.2 mln t (no change).

Seaports of the Caspian Basin handled 6.1 mln t of cargo (-9.6%) including 3.1 mln t of dry cargo (+3.5%) and 2.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-20.6%).  Throughput of port Makhachkala fell by 15.1% to 3.3 mln t, Astrakhan – by 1.8% to 2.6 mln t, Olya – by 5.4% to 0.2 mln t.

The ports of the Far East handled 185.5 mln t of cargo (+8.3%) including 111.0 mln t of dry cargo (+13.0%) and 74.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.1%). Port Vostochny handled 68.5 mln t (+5.2%), Vanino - 30.2 mln t (+11.6%), Nakhodka - 23.3 mln t (+9.4%), Prigorodnoye - 16.4 mln t (+2.4%), Vladivostok - 14.3 mln t (+11.2%), De-Castri - 11.5 mln t (+10.4%), Posiet - 8.2 mln t (+26.6%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
