Coast guard ship Polar Star joins Border Guard Service of Russia’s FSB in the Western Arctic District (photo)
On 28 January 2016, Murmansk hosted a ceremony dedicated to capital coast guard ship Polyarnaya Zvezda (Polar Star) joining the Border Guard Service of Russia’s FSB in the Western Arctic District, says press center of Murmansk Region Government.
The ceremony was attended by Igor Babenko, Deuty Governor of the Murmansk Region. On behalf of Murmansk Governor Marina Kovtun he expressed gratitude to all those involved in designing building and testing of the powerful ship, the first in the series of guard ships of new generation. Special thanks were addressed to the personnel of Tatarstan-based Zelenodolsk and Kronshtadt shipyards.
The ship of project 22100 was laid down on May 30, 2012 at Tatarstan-based Zelenodolsk Plant. In May 2015 the ship passed by inland water ways to the Kronshtadt shipyard for outfitting.
The flag hoisting ceremony was held in Kronshtadt on 17 December 2016
New generation border guard ship developed by Central Marine Design Bureau Almaz (Saint-Petersburg) is intended for patrolling remote sea and ocean areas. With her ability of automatic exchange of information the ship can be used as a mobile control center.
Characteristics: displacement - 3,200 t, length - 93 m, breadth - 15 m, speed - 20 knots, cruising range – 12,000 miles, endurance - 60 days. The ship can sail in ice of up to 80 cm thick.
