Atomflot says construction of Leader icebreaker should be started in 2021

Construction of the Leader class icebreaker should be started in 2021, IAA PortNews correspondent sites Stanislav Golovinsky, Deputy Director General for Development, FSUE Atomflot, as saying at the 2nd International Conference Arctic-2017. 

According to Stanislav Golovinsky, operation of the Leader icebreaker is very cost-effective. Such an icebreaker can escort 200,000 DWT vessels with the escort time to make 8 days maximum.

The representative of Atomflot believes that the Leader icebreaker will let improve the economics of the NSR logistics. Therefore, when the construction of three icebreakers is completed by 2021, the construction of Leader icebreaker should begin.
