Volga Shipping Company is preparing vessels for the 2017 navigation

Volga Shipping Company (part of the UCL Holding) says is preparing 178 different vessels for the 2017 navigation. Repair of hulls, engines, machinery, electrical equipment and nautical instruments is carried out at the fleet maintenance bases and ship-repairing yards.

15 Volgo-Don type motor vessels will go through scheduled average repairing (repair of the hulls and powerhelm units) during 2016-2017 internavigational period. To accomplish this large amount of work, all ship repair yards, which are the Volga Shipping partners, are involved into the preparation process: Borremflot, Pamyat’ Parizhskoy Communy (Nizhny Novgorod region), Voznesenye Fleet Repair and Operation Base (Leningrad region), Volzhsky Ship Repair Yard (Volgograd region), Sudostroitel (Rostov region).

5 of 10 motor vessels of the RSD44 project will go through their first repair on the slip of the Aksay ship repair yard. Five other motor vessels of this project were examined by the Russian River Register specialists last year. In 2017 the RRR specialists are going to confirm the vessels class and performance data reliability of the 5 vessels, put into operation in 2012.

Wartsila engines manufacturer specialists are conducting repair of the main propulsion units. Modern marine paint resistant to sea crust will be used for hulls painting. High quality paint is going to reduce friction when in motion and save fuel.

Push-tugs and non-self-propelled vessels (barges) are repaired at the Bor fleet maintenance base (Nizhny Novgorod region) and the Volzhsky fleet maintenance base (Volgograd region).

Before the navigation start all vessels of the Volga Shipping will go through examination by the Russian River Register for compliance with standards and Rules of technical operation.

Reference: The Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the largest shipping companies in Russia, it was founded in 1843. It performs cargo transportation along the rivers and lakes of the country. According to the results of the navigation 5.6 mln tons of cargos were transported by the Company in 2015.

The company branches, including the Bor and the Volzhsky fleet maintenance bases, as well as shipyards - Borremflot JSC, Pamyat’ Parizhskoy Communy JSC and Voznesenye Fleet Repair and Operation Base JSC are the Volga Shipping ship repair areas.
