Cargo shipments by North-Western Shipping Company up 5% to 2.76 mln t in HI’2017

The volume of cargo carried by the vessels of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC, member of UCL Holding) in January-June 2017 totaled 2.76 million tons, which is 5% higher than the volume carried over the same period last year, says the shipping company’s press center.

1 million tons (37% of the total shipping) was conducted by the new vessels of NWSC – 10 vessels of DCV36 project (lead ship – “Amethyst”) and 7 vessels of RSD49 “Neva-Leader” project.

In the reporting period, the vessels of NWSC carried 0.66 mln t of grain (-17% year-on-year), 0.57 mln t of ferrous metal (+50%), 0.49 mln t of chemical and mineral fertilizers (+16%), 0.52 mln t of coal (+55%), 0.08 mln t of non-ferrous metal (-27%), 0.44 mln t of other cargoes.

The bulk of shipments – 0.96 million tons which equals to 71% - was formed by export cargo of the shipping company, its volume growing by 10%. Exports were mainly formed by grain cargo, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, coal, chemical and mineral fertilizers.

Decrease of volume of grain cargo shipping during the covered period is caused by a decrease of voyages to Turkish ports due to a considerable increase of Russian grain export duty introduced by the Turkish government. Increase of coal cargo shipping volume is caused by acquisition of new contracts. Increase of ferrous materials cargo shipping volume is caused by renewal of shipping of that kind of cargo from the Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg to the ports of Baltic States and Poland.

The bulk of shipments – more than 2 million tons which equals to 72% - was formed by export cargo of the shipping company, its volume growing by 5%. Exports were mainly formed by grain cargo, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, coal, chemical and mineral fertilizers.

The transportation between foreign ports equaling to 0.58 million tons which accounts for 21% of the overall volume, was flat, year-on-year.

Imports fell by 23% to 0.07 million tons, which was caused by the reduction of cargo traffic from the European countries to Russia. The import ratio in the general volume of traffic equaled to 2.5%.

Domestic intra-Russia shipping was close to zero in HI’2017.
