About RUB 14 bln has been spent for construction of Vykhodnoy-Lavna line in the framework of the first phase of the project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub, Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun said at the meeting at the regional Government. According to her, 450 units of equipment and more than 1,000 workers are involved.
Marina Kovtun also informed the meeting participants about the result of the meeting on the opportunities for developing transport infrastructure in Northwest Russia held by Vladimir Putin in Kaliningrad on August 16. The agenda included some issues related to the Murmansk Region.
Among them was the project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub. In his speech at the meeting the President referred to the project as one of the priorities. He said that expanding Murmansk port capacity is instrumental for Arctic shelf development projects and plans to develop the Northern Sea Route, as well as exports of coal and other products.
The President also emphasized that the environment is a matter of special concern. “As we develop coal terminals and choose locations for expanding port capacity, we need to make the environment a priority, and pay as much attention as possible to these issues, taking into consideration the interests of the people living nearby”, he said. He also called on business representatives to implement new, advanced trans-shipment technologies based on strict environmental standards and norms.
“These are obviously long-term investments, but eventually they will also generate returns”, Marina Kovtun cited the President.
Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said at the meeting in Kaliningrad that despite the deficit of finances the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation developed a scenario of further activities to complete the MTH project. It includes the concession mechanism and attraction of off-budget resources as well.
