National Fish Resources to invest RUB 3-4 bln in creation of a fishery cluster in the Kaliningrad Region

Sergey Kharkov, head of FSUE NatsRybResurs (National Fish Resources), has presented the project of a fishery cluster in the Kaliningrad Region to Ilya Shestakov, head of Rosrybolovstvo (Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery). With the reforms planned by NatsRybResurs, throughput of Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port is expected to grow by more than 300,000 t per year. NatsRybResurs says the investments are expected to make RUB 3-4 bln.

Apart from repair and modernization of the fishing port’s infrastructure, the project foresees the construction of a yard for refrigerated containers, reconstruction of a facility for transshipment of light oil products in order to arrange bunkering of fishing vessels, establishment of a fish canning plant and an enterprise for servicing and repairing of fishing ships.

Besides, a fish shop and a fish market are to be set up for selling the catch at the port without involving any second-hand dealers. Kaliningrad citizens will have an opportunity to buy cheap fish of high quality.

During his trip to the Kaliningrad Region Ilya Shestakov also visited the Pionersky terminal, which is also important for the development of the fishery cluster in the region.

“Pionersky, the only non-freezing port in the region, is the closest to the key fishing areas in the Baltic Sea, which lets the fishing companies develop more efficient logistics of fish delivery. … Transportation from the port to the processing facilities in the region takes an hour and a half maximum. Besides, there are two state-of-the-art fish processing plants in Pionersky”, said Oleg Bakanov, Deputy Director General of NatsRybResurs.

By February 2018, Rosrybolovstvo, Kaliningrad Region and NatsRybResurs should develop a joint plan for development of a fishery cluster based on the fishing port of Kaliningrad and at the terminal of Pionersky.
