Oteko and VostokCoal to create a hub at the port of Taman
Oteko and VostokCoal have agreed on creation of a global hub at the port of Taman to supply blended coals for pulverized coal injection (PCI) to the world market, VostokCoal told IAA PortNews.
Blended coals will be produced on Vostochny and Kiyzassky coal open pit mines. In 2018, deliveries will start from 0.5 million tons / month and can be further increased to 1-1.2 million tons / month.
Target supply markets are India, China, Brazil, Europe. Thus, the alliance will become the Russian leader in in PCI supply used in metallurgical production.
Last year VostokCoal produced 14 mmt of coal and anthracite, including 10 mmt of coal on Kiyzassky coal open pit mine (vs 7.59 mln t in 2016) and 4 mmt of anthracite on Vostochny coal open pit mine (vs 1.17 mln t in 2016).
Total production of VostokCoal companies in 2017 grew by 37.6%, year-on-year.
VostokCoal (VostokUgol Management Company) develops initiatives in the coal and anthracite production within the Russian Federation. This means production of best power-plant coal in the Kemerovo Region and antracite in the Novosibirsk Region. All the company’s facilities have been launched from scratch. Operation in the Arctic zone of Russia is the strategic activities of VostokCoal. The company is implementing the project on development of the Taimyr Coal Basin including the development of deposits and the construction of port Chaika with annual capacity of over 10 mln t of coal.
The group of companies United Freight Forwarding Company (OTEKO Group) is the largest private investor in port infrastructure in southern Russia.
Since 2000 OTEKO Group has implemened a comprehensive investment program for the construction of terminal facilities in the port of Taman. The Group has already built and launched a facility for export of liquefied petroleum gas, oil and oil products with capacity of 20 million tonnes a year. In line with the investment program, the company will build in Taman a terminal for handling coal, iron ore, sulfur and fertilizers of annual capacity of 35 million tonnes, and a complex for shipment of export grain with capacity of 14.5 million tonnes per year.
