Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association lays down two chemical tankers of Project 00216М for Volgotrans

On 4 September 2018, Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association (ASPO, part of Caspian Energy Group) held a keel-laying ceremony for two chemical tankers of Project 00216М. The tankers will be built under the contract signed by Caspian Energy Group (United Shipbuilding Corporation), OOO Volgotrans and ZAO Goznak-Leasing, says press center of Caspian Energy Group.

Project 00216М was tailored by Vympel Design Bureau to meet the demands of Volgotrans. As compared with chemical tankers of Project RST27, 00216М tankers will be more efficient and sophisticated.

Vessels of Project 00216М (sea/river class) are intended for transportation of crude oil and oil products as well as a wide range of liquid cargoes - noxious liquid substances including those requiring heating to 60 degrees). Such ships can simultaneously carry three types of cargo.

Chemical tankers of Project 00216М have the following characteristics: length – 141 m; width – 16,7 m; depth – 6 m;  endurance – 15 days; speed – about 10 knots; river deadweight (with draft of 3.6 m) — 5,350 t, sea deadweight (with draft of 4.6 m) — 7,900 t; crew – 12.

The first tanker is to be launched by ASPO in 2019, the second one – in 2020.

The construction is financed under the leasing programme of USC covering the construction of sea and river civil ships.

Rustam Khalitov, Director General of OOO Caspian Energy Group, commented: “This decision has taken a lot of efforts and energy, we have tried our best for this event to happen. Having signed a contract for construction of chemical tankers we will preserve and increase the number of shipbuilding jobs which means that the shipyard and its personnel will continue working”.

OAO ASPO, construction division of Caspian Energy Group specializes in construction of technical facilities for offshore field development and commercial shipbuilding. ASPO comprises Astrakhan based shipyards: ASPO Main Yard, ASPO Site №3 and Lotos shipyard.

Caspian Energy Group (CNRG) combines resources that enable to provide complex projects pertaining to the creation of offshore facilities. The strategic goal of Caspian Energy Group is to be the world-class Russian EPCI contractor in oil and gas industries, especially in the Caspian sea region.

Shipping company Volgotrans (Samara, member of Russian Chamber of Shipping) earlier signed an agreement with United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) for construction of more than 30 sea/river tankers of 6,000-7,500 DWT within three years, The ships will be built to Russian designs and will sail under the flag of Russia. The orders will be placed at both USC and non-USC shipyards. All state support measures will be used to finance the project: subsidized leasing, utilization grant and Government Decree No 383 on refunding of loan interest rates.
